Manifesto
Phosphenica takes its name from phosphenes - visual illusions not caused by light, but by stimulation of the eyes' mechanisms. As children, we rub our eyes to watch colours and shapes explode out of darkness. Stan Brakhage called this 'seeing yourself thinking.'
With a focus on experimental and non-fiction film, Phosphenica seeks to reimagine cinema as a medium for consciousness and real social change. We envision a truly independent mode of film-making that challenges environmentally and socially destructive industry norms.
D.I.Y. everything.
